Insurance Policy
In using Portal, you are deemed to have read and agreed to the Insurance Policy:
We work hard to keep Portal Browse a safe place to rent. The Portal Insurance provides protection for Items you lend to Borrowers up to $1,000; items that are damaged, lost, or stolen.
What you will need to do prior to lending?
In order for us to protect you from any issues, all Owners MUST take these precautionary steps before renting.
- Take photos or a video of your Item BEFORE it is loaned to the Borrower. These need to be timestamped, so we recommend taking them on a smartphone where timestamps are automatically encrypted. You must send pictures to browse@portalup.co BEFORE it is loaned to the Borrower.
- If your Item has a core function you need a video with sound of this working such as a smartphone or a television set or a blender. This way if there is no external damage but it stops working, you can prove it was working immediately prior to the rental. You must send video(s) to browse@portalup.co BEFORE it is loaned to the Borrower.
- If your Item is returned damaged, you must notify us within 24 hours of the end date of the rental or receiving the Item back.
- Make sure all Items you give the Borrower are mentioned in the listing. If they’re not mentioned in the listing, they are not insured.
- Make sure you can locate the Proof of Purchase for your items, these will be required for successful claims.
Eligibility Questions
In order for use to protect you from any issues, these terms listed below must all apply to the Owner as well as follow the prior steps in “What you will need to do prior to lending?”. The “Eligibility Questions” section may determine if you are eligible to be insured by Portal Insurance.
- I have not been convicted of, or charged with, any offense other than motoring offences in the past 5 years.
- I have never been subject to a county court judgement (CCJ), a debt relief order (DRO), an individual voluntary arrangement (IVA) or to bankruptcy proceedings.
- I have never had insurance cancelled, refused or declined or had any special terms imposed.
- I have not made more than 2 insurance claims in the past 2 years.
Commercial Insurance
If you have your own commercial insurance, you will be required to make a claim on your commercial insurance before you make a claim on the Portal Insurance. If your commercial insurance will not cover it, or your claim is rejected for any reason, you can make a claim with Portal.
Value Covered
Your items are insured up to $1,000 or the value you set as the Buy Value (BV) (the price you set in order to buy the Item), if it is less. It is at Portal’s discretion whether we pay out the BV or organize you a replacement Item or replace the part associated with the damage (for example: replace the damage bike tire rather than the entire bike).
- Ordinary wears and tears are at times not covered. For example: binding of a book whether it is bent or a minor tear in the page or dirt and/or minor scratches on a tire.
Late Fees
Please note that we do not insure late fees. However, if a Borrower returns the Item(s) late, and doesn’t voluntary pay it, we will do everything we can to reimburse you for the late return.
- The shipping of the Item back to the Owner must be shipped on the day it is due at the latest.
- We do not cover fees due to shipping errors caused by a 3rd party.
